Inner Guidance: April 10, 2016

Inner Guidance: April 10, 2016

Never has there been a time, nor will there ever be a time, when inner guidance is not available to us all. The key is learning to be aware of that inner guidance and then following it. Sometimes inner guidance is referred to as intuition, conscious, inner wisdom, inner advisor, or that gut feeling. I like to refer to it as my internal GPS. Inner guidance is the means of right action. It is how you can know what to do. It is your deepest knowing made conscious.

Thinking back to inner guidance on a personal level, there have been many times in my life when I did not follow my internal GPS. I am reminded of the story in the bible about Jonah and the whale. Jonah did not follow his inner guidance and as a result he ended up in the belly of the whale. A place I’ve been many times. What I’ve come to realize is that there are truly no right or wrong paths in life, only experiences that we can learn from if we choose to. When we are not in touch with our inner guidance, we look for it outside of ourselves in many ways that just do not work. The answers to our questions are within and each of us has been given the gift of an inner advisor.

We have all had that “gut feeling” before that something wasn’t right. I rely on that gut feeling or intuition on a daily basis in my nursing practice. It is however a work in progress for me when it comes to listening to it in my personal life. A step I’ve made great strides in due to my spiritual practice of meditation and prayer. The practice of learning to spend time in silence is vital to staying in touch with our inner guidance. I am learning to be more in touch with my inner guidance by quietening the mind and tuning more into my heart. My pastor, David Ault, likened our mind to the ocean. He said that the waves on top are always moving and never completely still. If you go to the bottom of the ocean, however, it is silent. We must turn our attention inward to the silence deep inside. We have to get out of our head and into our heart. Pay attention to how you feel when you are doing certain things or making certain decisions. Many times we do not listen to the inner guidance because we don’t want to hear what it has to say.   We must learn to trust and heed the answers that come to us even if it is not the answers we want to hear.

Are you in touch with your inner guidance? What are some ways you have used inner guidance in your personal life? Understand that there are many truths. Using your inner guidance will help you find yours. I look forward to your feedback and appreciate it so much. See you next Sunday for the weekly Sunday blog.

Peace and blessings

  1. So true Vince, many times I wished I had gone with my gut feeling but I didn’t. We all live and learn. Still working on my GPS!! 😀

Thanks again for your message Vince!

    1. Cedric,

You are right. I think as long as we learn from it, its a good thing. The problem for me sometimes is I do not heed the lesson learned. I’m working on it.

  2. As always Vincent, thank you for your thoughts. I believe we are taught to tune out our GPS early in life. What a blessing it would be to go through life being taught to trust our “guts” and make our decisions based on that inner voice. I remember the time I got mugged in an alley. I actually said out loud, “nothing good ever happens down an alley”. I soon found myself with a razor to my neck, and I was being mugged. Sometimes, we hear, and we choose. I can not say that I was happy to be mugged, but I did learn a very good lesson. Now, when I hear that internal voice warning me, I listen.
I guess “shut up and listen takes on a whole new meaning”

    1. Greg,

Great analogy relating the inner voice with “shut up and listen.” That’s exactly what we need to do. A work in progress for me but am thankful for the awareness.

  3. Vince, you are so right – we all have that inner guidance, but most of us don’t listen , including me!!
I am trying my best to listen ,but it definitely is a work in progress
Wish I could meditate more. My mind is always racing– any suggestions?

    1. Michele,

It is a work in progress for all of us. For me it is more about being aware of my feelings with every action and in every situation. It is of course not an audible voice. It is a feeling. Setting aside time everyday to sit in silence has been very helpful for me. When my mind starts racing I immediately bring my attention back to my breath as I breath in and out. It takes practice, patience, and dedication. Making the commitment to sit in silence daily is a great start. I am forever grateful for your feedback and support.

      Much love

  4. Dianna,

Thanks as always for your response. There are many times when we all do not listen to your inner voice. Just something to be more aware of. Peace and blessings to you always.

    Vince

  5. Good Morning, With hustle and bustle of many things going on in my everyday life, Sometimes I don’t listen to my inner voice. I should take time out for myself.
Thank you Vince! It’s a lesson to learn from your inspirations!😘
